Get Your Hair Out Of Hibernation

Winter is not the time to hide your locks, but it is a time that they sometimes wish they could go into hiding. The cold and dryness winter inflicts on your hair can do some serious damage, and although this is the time for hats and beanies, it’s not the time to neglect what goes under them. Here are some tips to keep your hair looking beautiful and healthy through the winter months to keep it out of hibernation for the season.

Bringing Back the Shine
During the summer months, it’s not uncommon to fall into a daily washing routine when it comes to your hair, and still get away with it looking good. Now with the colder shorter days, the shine in your hair has faded, much like the sun. It might be a good idea to start using …

Snowy Skin Care: 5 easy steps

Now that summer is winding down, with the days growing shorter and many of our schedules getting crazier, it’s easy to forget to give the same attention to ourselves as we do when we are out in the sun. Summer is not the only time your body needs attention and protection from the elements though. Winter brings with it a whole different array of issues that we ladies should address. Here are some tips to remember before heading out on your next trip to the snow.

Moisturize

This is one I cannot reiterate enough. Moisturizing helps heal your skin after a long day in the snow; as well as protects it from the very get go. If at all possible, wear as little makeup as you can while on the slopes. You may be rolling your eyes, but …

Safety First Kids

Living at the beach, I am pretty active outdoors. Today I was out in the bay by my house with my best friend and noticed all the people riding back from the beach on their beach cruisers. I saw some groms riding with their surfboards in tow and noticed that they were wearing helmets. Now you would think a kid on a bike wearing a helmet is a normal occurrence, but the reason it stuck out to me was its not normal around here, especially at the beach. I wear a helmet when I am out on my mountain bike, but not on my cruiser, and probably would never think to do so.

The helmet got me thinking though, about how we do and do not protect ourselves when we are out being active and enjoying the great outdoors. Whether we are cruising on the boardwalk …

Know your Straps from your Steps – Snowboard Bindings Explained

There is always one component of every equation that people tend to over look or neglect because they think, or just plain don’t know, how important that one element really is. Case in point, the snowboard binding. Bindings are one of the most essential elements when putting together your setup. We have covered some basics in picking a board, but now you want to be sure you are paying the same attention to your bindings for your new set up. Before I get ahead of myself, make sure you have a decent pair of boots, as you need those to decide on a pair of decent bindings.

What are the different types of bindings?

There are basically 3 different types of bindings that you can choose from: Strap, Step-In and Plate Bindings. All of them are different, and it’s really up to you and what is the …

FactiveGRL Hangs Out With Matix Girl Designer Tanya Carrao

I don’t know if I’m the only one that has noticed Matix lately, but they are making moves like never seen. Originally rooted in the skateboard market, the Matix girls brand has expanded its ever evolving reach into the rest of the action sports market, focusing on surf and lifestyle images more and more. I started noticing the waves this brand was making not too long ago, but especially in recent months as the images and styling’s have been at the forefront of the girls action sports market. Lucky for me, I can go right to the source, as my good friend Tanya Corrao happens to be the lead designer for the Matix Girls division.

I had the privilege to meet up and Tanya over the past weekend to touch base on our lives, hang out with old friends, …

What to Know Before You Buy a Snowboard »

What to Know Before You Buy a Snowboard

I don’t know about you girls, but this year I am in the market for a new snowboard. I’ve been truly faithful to my board for the last 5 years, quite the lifetime it seems for a snowboard. Since I’ve had the same board for so long, I really want to make sure my next one is just as good, if not better, and can provide the same enjoyment and reliability of my last. Since it has been such a long time since I have really looked at snowboards, with the intention to buy one for myself, I want to make sure that I’m really getting something that will not only fit my needs on the mountain, but will be the right board for my body and style of riding.

So I went into my local shop to get the low down on the new 2009 board line …

Bye-Bye Trail Maps: Podpro Ski and Snowboard Guides

We’re all into our new gadgets these days, I mean, what would we do without a cell phone or mp3 player? One thing I’ve learned, is to never go anywhere without my cell phone (especially us girls), not just for safety, but to keep me connected to the world. Even though my cell phone has become my ultimate accessory, I am always looking for new ways to make it my ultimate life tool as well. I heard about this new trail map service for the iPhone called Podpro a few months back and have seen the commercials where you can get trail maps right on your mobile device. Not having an iPhone myself, I didn’t pay much attention to them until a friend told me it worked the same on your iPod or Blackberry phone as well. That sold me straight up. I’ve …
