FactiveGRL Hangs Out With Matix Girl Designer Tanya Carrao
I don’t know if I’m the only one that has noticed Matix lately, but they are making moves like never seen. Originally rooted in the skateboard market, the Matix girls brand has expanded its ever evolving reach into the rest of the action sports market, focusing on surf and lifestyle images more and more. I started noticing the waves this brand was making not too long ago, but especially in recent months as the images and styling’s have been at the forefront of the girls action sports market. Lucky for me, I can go right to the source, as my good friend Tanya Corrao happens to be the lead designer for the Matix Girls division.
I had the privilege to meet up and Tanya over the past weekend to touch base on our lives, hang out with old friends, and see what she has in store for us (with her work that is). First, I was sure to commend her for the direction she has taken the brand. Before joining the Matix family, Tanya was designing for core surf brand, Lost, and making their girls line fun and edgy while keeping with the core surf roots. Now at Matix, she has been able to help the brand break out of the shell of the skateboarding world and move into more of a sophisticated and fashion forward arena.
Matix Girls is bringing a unique and refined touch to their new image. With this more sophisticated and subdued look, they have been able to transcend the barriers of the niche market and have successfully transitioned into a brand that has been noticed not only within the industry, but within the lifestyle and fashion market as well. I took a look at the newly released Fall 2008 and the soon to come Spring 2009 lines and what a treat. Tailored dresses, high waisted skirts and shorts, signature sweaters, and skinny denim give the line a depth and personality all its own. Graphic tees, vnecks, and simple accessories keep the assortment grounded while giving girls the diversity to play up or down their outfits as they choose.
Spring 2009 previews a much different vibe, but with all the excitement and diversity that Fall brought with it. Dip dyed dresses, summer skirts, layering pieces and pastel colors show a lighter and flirty side to the Matix Girl as she enters the summer months. Perfect for shopping around town or chilling beachside with your crew, there are adorable fashions to compliment your style no matter what you’re looking for.
When you have a chance, check out their Spring 2008, Summer 2008, and Fall 2008 on the Matix Girl’s website to see for your self. Keep up the good work Tanya and all the team at Matix Girls. We look forward to seeing what else you have to bring to us for Spring 2009 and in the future!
