Women's ASP Title Race Heating Up

Stephanie Gilmore, the reigning ASP World Champ, won the Movistar Classic Mancora Peru in Peru yesterday which boosted her back into the top position on the ASP Ratings. With only two events left on this year’s tour, both set to take place in Hawaii, anything could happen.

The Movistar Classic moved to a new location yesterday, from Mancora to Piscina, giving competitors a chance to compete in three to four foot swell. Stephanie Gilmore surfed consistently throughout the day, but managed to peak in the finals when it counted, and came out tops scoring the highest score of the day and taking the title.

Silvana Lima, who is incidentally lying 4th on the ratings, also had a ripper of a day, but just couldn’t seem to pull it together in the finals. Both will head to Hawaii with one common goal in mind, to …

However, today I came across something that takes online fantasy playing to a whole new level… our kind of level. Surfer Magazine has launched The Fantasy Surfer Challenge.

Four events remain in the Woman’s WCT, including the Beachley Classic kicking off in Sydney next week, and here is your chance to right in the midst of the action. ASP Women's World Title Race Continues at Billabong Girls Pro Rio

Calling all you surfer girls, this week marks the start of the Billabong Girls Pro in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Starting this Wednesday the ASP top 17 make their way to the beaches of Barra de Tijucia in Brazil for the 4th stop on the tour.

The 2008 Billabong Girls Pro Rio runs from September 10 - 18, 2008.

What's Happening on Tour?

It’s March and the year has definitely started, in terms of surfing and both the WCT and WQS. Although it is still early, and only one comp has gone down with regard to each tour, each point that each surfer earns from the very start counts for something. Basically, it’s impossible to get a whiff of who is going to come out on tops, but it is a good time to check out the year’s talents, the year’s wildcards, the potential winners and also, those who came on tour with on mission and one mission only.

The opening event of the WQS, the Roxy Women’s Pro Festival, was held in Aus at Philip Island in late Jan, and saw all this seasons ‘QS riders battle it out for a podium finish. The 6 star qualifying event lucked out with near perfect conditions, …
